Easy Ideas for a Budget Bathroom Makeover
Can you believe the transformation on this bathroom with just cosmetic updates and a budget of less than $1500? I was able to update nearly every surface in the bathroom without doing any major renovations.

Project 1: Painted shower tile and surround
I painted the shower interior tile using Homax tough as tile. The outer surround was painted using rustoleum black flat spray paint. Want more details? I have a full tutorial for the painted shower process.
Total cost for shower update: $45
Project 2: Vinyl flooring over existing tile
These 12 x 24 vinyl peel and stick tiles were purchased from Lowe’s, cut into strips, and then applied on top of the original tile with some construction adhesive to add extra security and make sure they stayed put. Once that was done, the tiles were grouted using a grout made specifically for vinyl tile. Full tutorial for this process can be found here.
Total cost of flooring: $150
I also replaced my toilet which cost approximately $250
Project 3: Ceiling update
The paint on my ceiling was peeling and chipping off and it looked horrendous. I worked with a company called Ceilume and was provided ceiling tiles to install. Installation was super easy and just required prepping the surface and applying with adhesive. Total cost if you were to purchase your own tiles for a size, approximately $350. I also needed to replace my ceiling light and fan which cost approximately $150.
Project 4: Painted vanity
This was arguably the least expensive and most impactful change in the whole bathroom. I purchased a quart of Sherwin-Williams Evergreen fog, but did opt for the higher end cabinet enamel which cost about $35.
The new black matte hardware is from Amazon.
Total cost of vanity update: $60
Project 5: Board and Batten
Unfortunately wood is not cheap these days…but overall board and batten is a pretty good bang for your buck. I added 1×4 strips of wood across horizontally across the wall and then 1×2 strips vertically. I also needed to replace the baseboard and painted the walls here using paint that I already had on hand.
Cost of wood, approximately $100.
Project 6: Floating shelves and wallpaper
Using a kit from national hardware I was able to easily hang floating shelves in this little toilet nook. Prior to doing that I used a peel and stick wallpaper that I found on Amazon. Aside from the brackets from national hardware, I also purchased one piece of 2 x 12 wood that I cut down for both of the shelves.
Total cost for wallpaper and wall shelves $85
Project 7: Final details
Lastly I brought in a new towel bar, toilet paper holder, some fun peg hooks, a few picture frames, prints from Etsy, and some baskets from target. Total cost of additional details: less than $200
Total cost of budget bathroom makeover: $1390
