Renovations

Industrial Sports Bedroom

Ok guys….here it is!  My son’s industrial (Boston) sports themed bedroom for the One Room Challenge!  It was a lot of work and 6 weeks goes by faaasssttt…but I finished (nearly) everything on the list!  Check it out below!

Faux Brick Feature Wall

Before this project, this wall was boring. Yes, we have rotated artwork in and out…but it still didn’t have any character. This faux brick feature wall adds that and more!

Upholstered Headboard

My son’s old bed had a headboard but it was dark and wooden. His only input into this room was that he wanted a “soft” headboard. I created this framed upholstered headboard to meet that request while also keeping it masculine.

Platform Storage Bed- Ikea Hack

As I mentioned in a previous post, I had planned to build a new bed and then last minute changed the plan and hacked our current Ikea platform storage bed. So happy with this decision because I really love how it turned out!

Bedding, Window Treatments, Rug

The bedding, window treatments, and new rug really pulled this space together and created a cleaner and brighter space. I cannot say enough great things about our Beddy’s bedding! If you haven’t run across this amazing product yet, please check it out. The best way I can describe it is like a fitted sleeping bag for your bed. It makes the bed easy to make and always looks clean! My son adores this bedding.

The window treatments were changed out from long curtains to roman shades. This has made such a huge change in the space! It looks bigger and brighter and these cordless shades are super easy to use as well.

Lastly, can we just chat about this rug??! If you are on instagram, you’ve probably seen it in at least one room somewhere. It is popular…for a very good reason. The design is gorgeous. The rug itself is super soft. The price is right (on Wayfair). Love, love, love.

Industrial Bookshelves

I went back and forth between making built in bookshelves for this space vs. smaller side tables. Ultimately, I compromised by creating something that works well with the space but isn’t permanent (I’m a constant mind changer…) I love the storage these DIY industrial bookshelves add and the feel of a bedroom “set”.

Artwork and Display

As you can obviously see, my son has a (Boston) sports obsession. We basically created walls devoted to individual sports. To tie all that together, I created a couple of display pieces. You may have seen this hockey puck display in the past as I built this for his last birthday. I have now added a display for his signed hockey stick along with a photo of Bobby Orr and a cool photo of my son shooting a puck during hockey season this year. I’m sure we will continue to add to this wall as we go!

As for the sign above the bed, I again asked my son for input as to what it would say. I voted for “Fenway Park” but my son preferred TD Garden. The Garden is the venue for both the Bruins and the Celtics, and since we don’t really have any Celtics gear in the room, I think this is a good nod to the unrepresented Boston team.

Chalkboard Wall

The last detail (and what I was scrambling to finish yesterday when I should’ve been sharing this reveal) is this chalkboard wall. I must say, I really think this detail pulls it all together and really finishes the space! And, it is a huge hit with the kids! My oldest was psyched to make it a scoreboard for whatever game he is listening to at the time. Yes, he listens to games. On the radio. And keeps score as it goes (previously on a loose sheet of paper). It is quite possibly the cutest thing.

And there it is! My Industrial Sports Bedroom reveal! I really love it but, more importantly, my son really loves it. This is a room he can grow into and add to to make his own. I hope you have enjoyed following along with the process! Please make sure to check out the other guest participants of the One Room Challenge as they share their amazing room reveals!
