Modern Boho Guest Bedroom with Office

We’ve come a long way baby! Though I must say, I sure am glad this modern boho guest bedroom with office refresh is now wrapped! While I always love participating in the One Room Challenge, I am generally equally as excited when it’s over. So great for motivation and collaboration but it sure gets tiring! Let’s take a quick stroll back through the space from week one until now with the final reveal!

Week 1: The Modern Boho Guest Bedroom Plan

Wayback in week one I shared with you some lovely before shots of the space as well as the overall vision for the update. Things definitely took a few turns along the way, but overall I think I was able to stay relatively close to my original vision which included a little black (or maybe a lot of black), a little white, and some pops of green and tan/leather. Lots of modern updates in this space with a twist of a boho vibe.

Week 2: Wood Paneling Update

Although not super exciting, this update is arguably one of the most important in modernizing this space. It really transformed the room from a 70’s basement with wood paneling and orange/brown carpet to a more modern, fresh space. This update was also super fun because I was able to do it without gutting the space! Just a little joint compound, elbow grease, and paint is all it takes. Check out the full process here.

Week 3: Scrap Wood Wall Art

This project was actually one of the more fun projects of this entire makeover! I was able to knock off a West Elm wooden wall art that retails for $1000 using just scrap wood for, get this, FREE! I think it turned out great and really brought in some of the more modern vibe that I was trying to incorporate in the space. Tutorial here.

Week 4: Baseboard Heater Covers

This is a super fun project that instantly brings a space into the 21st-century! The old metal heater covers were super worn and rusted and these babies make it look so much more streamlined. This is a fast and easy project that adds a lot of bang for your buck too. I had to wing it on this one but, don’t worry. I created a tutorial so you don’t have to wing it yourself!

Week 5/6: Herringbone Board and Batten Accent Wall

OK, I know with each of the projects above I say that they completely transformed the space. But this herringbone board and batten accent wall like legitimately transformed the space from something that was more modern but was a bit blah into something with a lot of interest, texture, and style! Like the room would’ve been FINE without it…but it is SO much better with it!

Week 7: The Desker

I love what this Desker adds to the space: both storage and a flat work surface. And, in my opinion, that is exactly what a good guest bedroom needs! It doesn’t hurt that I was able to get this incredible office chair to jazz up the space. Oh, and this just may be my new office. You know, until visitors can return and such. You can shop this look here.

Week 8: The Final Reveal Boho Guest Bedroom

Even after 7 weeks of weekly blog posts, there are still so many fun aspects to the space that I didn’t have time to share! Like this killer stenciled accent wall with floating shelves using a stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils. For the shelves I found these awesome iron shelf brackets for a great price!

I ended up having to rip out the old carpet due to moisture getting in and was able to repair that leak on my own as well as lay some Life Proof vinyl flooring in the color essential oak from Home Depot. This was a blessing in disguise because that carpet was awful! So much better, right?!

This IKEA Hemnes daybed hack that took a white drab bed and turned it into a fabulous black modern piece. I painted everything black and added shaker style trim to the front of the drawers along with some new gold hardware. Now it looks amazing!

I floundered with this macramé wall art but think in the end it turned out pretty good. I’ll make another attempt at some point when I’m not in such a time crunch.

And lastly, I purchased this super cool textured flatweave rug from rugs USA and added in this used green swivel chair from Facebook marketplace to add some comfortable seating with a little bit of style. Check out this link to shop this room! You can find the lumbar pillow here.

I’m completely blown away at how much this room has transformed over the last eight weeks! Many of the other accounts that I’ve been following along with have made significant transformations to their spaces as well! So while I am somewhat happy to see this modern boho guest bedroom refresh in the One Room Challenge finish up, eventually I will be back for more!
