One Room Challenge- Kids Bedroom Update

For the next six weeks I will be a guest participant in the One Room Challenge! I’m super excited as this is the first year that I have participated, though I have been following along for quite some time watching all the amazing rooms that people design. And while I am not a designer, I do love to build, renew, and renovate spaces. So I’m pretty pumped to have the opportunity to contribute and hopefully inspire others to try new projects as well!

Week 1

I’m focusing on my older son’s bedroom for the ORC and thought it would be fitting for week one to show you what I’m working with. I think you will agree, it needs some help! Below are some before pics and at the end you will see my design plan/inspiration!

Before

His room is currently a mess with very little organization or space to display his favorite items (all sports focused, of course). The furniture is all mismatched and super old hand me down stuff.

Yes, I could’ve cleaned his room. But I wanted these pics to be a true representation of the nonsense I live with. Plus, the amount of work involved to clean just to get a picture…

Design Inspo

I’m hoping to create a more functional and mature space for him while (hopefully) creating enough organization options that I don’t go crazy every time I walk in his room!

The plan, as of now, is to continue the sports theme he loves so much with an industrial spin. I will be adding a feature wall, a custom built bed with new bedding, bookshelves with storage, and new finishing touches like a rug and window treatments. I know myself well enough to know that the plan will likely change somewhat along the way, but I’m super excited to see how it turns out!

Stay Tuned!

Thanks so much to the One Room Challenge group for putting this whole thing together and getting me motivated to crank this thing out! If left to my own devices, guaranteed it would take months to get all this done, if ever! Stay tuned for week 2 when I start to share some project progress!

Please make sure to check out all the other amazing makers and designers on the ORC blog and what is sure to be some knock your socks off rooms!
